I hate cleaning. Okay, I don’t hate cleaning, but I hate how much it can cost if you’re not paying attention to what you’re paying for cleaning supplies. It’s especially costly if you use natural cleaning products like I do. Let me tell you, I could easily spend a good portion of my grocery budget on cleaning supplies if I wasn’t careful. Luckily though, there are ways to get around spending your entire paycheck on them. For me, in order to cut those costs out, I had to find free cleaning supplies and free ways to clean. Once I did that, the savings really started stacking up and I am still able to use the best cleaning supplies out there! In my own grocery budget, I use these tips, plus I make my own homemade cleaner recipes to help myself save money on groceries.

I know it sounds crazy to find the best cleaning supplies free, but trust me when I say it is possible. It will just take a little bit of work on your part. If you’re already working to lower your household expenses, it won’t add much to what you’re already doing. If you’re new to saving money, it will be one more thing for you to remember. Finding ways to get free cleaning supplies is well worth it though!
How to Find Free Cleaning Supplies to Save Money
The thing you need to understand about finding free cleaning supplies; especially natural cleaning products is that they are expensive which means you will really need to change how you look at a deal. While it is possible to score free cleaning supplies totally free, sometimes you may need find the silver lining in the cloud to really see the deal on the best cleaning products for your family. Doing things this way has allowed me to learn how to clean your home for less than $10.00 a week!
Use Food Scraps – Believe it or not, certain food scraps that you’re throwing away can help you have free cleaning supplies. Orange peels are great for making a homemade orange oil cleaner such as THIS one that can be used to clean anything. Lemon peels can also be used the same way. Potatoes can be used to help clean burnt on pots and pans and so on. If you’re looking for ways to both find free cleaning supplies and ways to have a zero waste home, it doesn’t get any easier than this.
Use a BOGO deal – One of my favorite places to get natural cleaning products is Grove for one reason. They almost always have a bogo deal happening. In fact, new Grove customers can score a FREE 5-piece Mrs. Meyers cleaning set when you sign up for a Grove Collaborative account with THIS link and spend $20.00. If you spend the $20 on things your family already needs, the free cleaning supplies is icing on the cake. In addition, as I said, they’ve almost always got a freebie up for grabs when you spend $50.
It may seem counter-intuitive to spend money just to save money, but if you make sure that you’re only paying for items you need anyhow, you aren’t spending anymore money than you normally would. Add the free products onto that and you’ve scored a deal!
Have friends and family help you – Another way to score free cleaning supplies; especially if you want natural cleaning products is by signing up for online stores that will allow you to have a referral link to send to your friends and family members. I know how hard it can be to get your family and friends to sign up for anything, but literally everyone needs cleaning products. That means this is the one area where you shouldn’t have any issues at all!
My two favorites to use for referring my friends and family are Grove Collaborative and The Honest Company. When you sign up for a Grove account HERE, you will not only earn a FREE 5-piece cleaning set on your first purchase, but you will earn a free $10 credit for each friend or family member who signs up once they make their first purchase of $20 or more. With Honest, you will earn a $20 credit once they make their first purchase. Both can be used to get free cleaning supplies and other things you might need free! You can sign up for an Honest account HERE and score a free trial of their cleaning supplies when you do! (There is no extra purchase required to use your credits that you earn.) The free trial is great since you score it free but it also allows you to test their products to make sure they’re the best cleaning products for your family.
Earn free gift cards to “buy” cleaning supplies – This is my favorite way to get anything free; not just to earn free cleaning supplies. https://sixdollarfamily.com/survey-junkie-cash-outg free gift cards allows you to “buy” the products you need – like cleaning supplies – totally free with no cost out of pocket. My two favorite sites to earn gift cards with are InstaGC and Swagbucks. When you sign up for InstaGC HERE, you’ll get a small sign up bonus and the opportunity to earn free gift cards that are paid to you instantly. When you sign up for Swagbucks HERE, you’ll score a $10.00 sign up bonus and be able to earn gift cards to hundreds of different stores. There are quite a few other ways to earn FREE gift cards too so you won’t be lacking for a way to earn.
Ask friends and family – Have you ever bought something you didn’t like only to have it sit in the back of a cabinet somewhere? Chances are good your friends and family have too. If you’re looking for free cleaning supplies, why not ask them if they have any they don’t like and won’t be using? It is better for someone to use something than to have it simply go to waste or end up in the trash.
Watch the cash back apps closely – Cash back apps, such as Ibotta, are worth it for more reason than one, but occasionally they will offer deals where the item you purchase is free after cash back. The way these work is you purchase the item then scan your receipt and the items barcode. After your purchase is confirmed, Ibotta will pay you the rebate amount back as cash back. When you accrue $20 or more in your Ibotta account, you can cash out instantly for gift cards or Paypal. When you have a rebate that pays the same amount you paid for the item, you’re getting it free! Sign up for Ibotta HERE and you’ll score whatever their current bonus for joining happens to be. They change it often so I can’t say for sure which one it is currently.
Use coupons and store promotions – It’s rare, but occasionally you can find coupon deals that will let you get free cleaning supplies. To do this, you’ll have to watch the sales ads carefully and to make sure you have the right coupons to do the deal. These could be digital coupons or printable coupons, but you won’t be able to get the best cleaning products for free if you don’t have them. Be sure you also have what you need to combine with the coupons if your deal requires it. These could be things such as ECB from CVS, RR or BRP from Walgreens or even a discount such as what the Target Red Card offers.
As I said in the beginning of this post, getting free cleaning supplies can be hard, but it absolutely can be done. You just have to be willing to work for it. After all, saving any money at all is hard work!
