Growing up, I loved Toaster Strudels. Who am I kidding? I still do. What I don’t like is the crazy amount of ingredients and the cost for what you actually get. Roughly $3.00 for 6 small bricks that have very little filling just hurts me right in the budget. So, I began making them at home and take my word for it, this homemade toaster strudel recipe is just what you need if you love them too!
Making Toaster Strudel from scratch is so incredibly easy you’ll wonder why you waited this long to do it! They’re super simple to assemble and you can make toaster strudel in the air fryer too so why not use one if you have one?
And if you don’t, you should. They’re such a time saver!
If not, you absolutely can bake the strudel dough and jam in the oven on a baking sheet for a few minutes to bake them. The oven is also the better option if you’re making a large batch.
What Flavor Toaster Strudel Can I Make with This Recipe?
The strudel recipe below will tell you how to make homemade strawberry toaster strudel and honestly, the reason for that is because strawberry is my favorite. However, you can make any flavor you want.
Want blueberry? Use blueberry pie filling or blueberry jam. Prefer apple? Make apple strudels with my homemade apple pie filling or apple jam. Apple filling is especially good if you ask me. The same goes for any flavor; blackberry, peach, cherry and more!
Honestly, the options are kind of endless!
Which Pastry is Best for Strudel?
For this recipe, you want a soft dough which makes puff pastry sheets with jam sandwiched between them perfect! Seal with a small amount of water (the bowl of water is not included in the ingredients since you only need a tiny amount) and use a pastry brush with melted butter if you want a crispy crust. For a softer crust, skip the butter. I highly recommend using unsalted butter for these unless you like a bit of salty with your sweet.
Can I Freeze Homemade Toaster Strudel?
Yes! To freeze it, allow your baked strudels to cool completely. Once cooled wrap in parchment paper and store flat in freezer bags. Use within 3-months.
To cook them after freezing, heat them up from frozen. Ice once heated through.
