Bring out the best flavor in every burger with this homemade hamburger seasoning mix. Simple to make, budget-friendly, and packed with flavor, it’s perfect for grilling, pan-frying, or baking. Use it and turn plain ground beef into a delicious meal.
My Momma made the best burgers when she was feeling well enough to cook, but as a cook myself, I can look back and see that something was missing. The toppings were good, the buns were fine, but the meat itself needed more flavor. She tried, but seasoning food properly wasn’t something she ever truly learned to do.
When I started cooking my own meals, I knew I would need a few great seasoning mixes on hand so I wasn’t always messing with a bunch of different spice bottles. The very first one I started with was this hamburger seasoning mix. Its so simple, but it has the ability to take your burger (or meatloaf!) to the next level!
What Spices Are in Homemade Hamburger Seasoning Mix?
While I’m certain there are other hamburger seasoning blends out there, mine uses several spices that blend together to create a smokey garlic flavor that gives just a hint of sweetness at the end. I promise you’ve never tasted a burger like the one you’re about to taste!
This particular blend uses smoked paprika, garlic, cumin, onion powder and brown sugar. For a little bit of a kick, we add black pepper and cayenne pepper. Finally, salt is necessary for flavors to truly develop so we round things out with a little bit of it.
How to Store Hamburger Seasoning Mix
Mason jar. You’d be surprised at just how many questions can be answered with a mason jar. Store your hamburger seasoning mix in any air tight container, but I find that for me, a pint sized mason jar works best.
As long as you have a container that is dry and air tight, your seasoning mix should last around 3 months. If it actually lasts that long. Mine never makes it to that point because I use it too fast!
How to Use Hamburger Seasoning Mix
The key is mixing the seasoning right into the raw ground beef before forming the patties. That way, the flavors are spread evenly through the meat, not just sitting on the outside. I keep the mixing gentle so the beef doesn’t get tough, then shape the patties and cook them however I feel like that day. They are great on the grill if it’s warm enough or pan fried if it isn’t.
Over time, I’ve also found myself using this seasoning mix for more than just burgers. It’s delicious sprinkled on roasted potatoes, mixed into meatloaf, or even tossed with vegetables before roasting. It’s one of those versatile blends that works in more places than you expect so feel free to experiment with it!
This little jar of homemade seasoning may not look like much, but it has completely changed the way I make burgers. It’s simple, budget-friendly, and keeps dinner from feeling boring. Once you’ve tried it, you may find yourself reaching for it as often as I do!
