If you love spooky Halloween decor, you’re going to want to do this one! I turned my bathroom into a crime scene for under $50 and I’m showing you how to do it too! This DIY Serial Killer Bathroom Halloween Decor is perfect for shock factor with just a bit of wtf on the side!
I know. “Stacy. It’s August.” Yes, I realize that, but Halloween is my favorite holiday and I wanted to give you an early start. A few years ago, I decided I was going to turn my bathroom into a crime scene. I figured that I love true crime, so why not bring a little bit of that to my own home for the Halloween season.
Enter this crime scene bathroom decor that I put together a few years ago.
If you’re looking for budget Halloween decorations, you can put this bathroom decor together for around $50 if you’re careful. I personally didn’t spend anything out of pocket since I used gift cards that I had earned from Swagbucks, but the decorations themselves aren’t expensive.
How to Create Crime Scene Bathroom Decor
To create your crime scene bathroom decor for Halloween, you’ll need to get used to the shock factor. It can be quite eerie to see in your bathroom even though you’re the one creating it. You’ll need a few supplies though.
I used:
- Bloody Handprint Shower Curtain HERE
- Bloody Footprint Bath Mat HERE
- Bloody Handprint Hand Towel HERE
- Bloody Handprint Clings HERE
- Blood Bag Shower Gel HERE
- Large Severed Head Prop (AKA “Bob”) HERE
I’m gonna tell you that Bob was the creepiest part of this decor idea. He was really lifelike. He’s also not in the photos because he was hiding behind the shower curtain and I forgot to get a photo of him.
But, Bob is also what really ties the room together.

Before you start putting your decor together, be sure that you clean any surfaces that you’re going to apply a cling to. Use a homemade all-purpose cleaner or a DIY glass cleaner and get rid of any surface dirt.
Allow them to dry fully before moving on because the clings won’t stick if your surface is dirty or wet.
You’ll also want to allow everything to fully dry before you start applying clings. If not, they won’t stick as well. While you’re waiting, hang the shower curtain, the body wash and put together the rest of your crime scene bathroom decor.
I tossed him in the bathtub then used a bit of homemade theater blood to scare it up a bit more. Since it went into the bathtub only, clean up was a snap. The fake blood really tied the whole bathtub scene together.

Once you’ve got everything where you want it, take a step back to make sure that nothing is falling off and that everything is place. If there is, smooth it out and fix it. After everything is fixed and looking great, shut the light off, shut the door and wait for the next person who has to use the bathroom!
If you’re wondering how well the items held up, they held up surprisingly well! We used the shower curtain and mat all season long with no issues! We did put a clear shower liner behind the curtain to help protect it, but it worked amazingly!
So, what do you think? Will you decorate your bathroom like a crime scene or is this over the line for you personally?
