Halloween is right around the corner which means that a lot of you Momma’s (or Daddy’s) are looking for spooky or gross kids crafts to scare up some fun with your little ghouls and goblins. After all, as parents we want them to have as much fun as possible while they’re still little, right? Take my word for it, this snot slime is the perfect Halloween craft!

This homemade Halloween slime is just the fun that they’re looking for! It is super easy to make and in the words of my daughter when we made ours for the first time years ago; “it’s booger colored!” Some days I’m still not sure how we made it to her 18th birthday.

In any case, this is one of my favorite kids crafts since they do most of the work and all you need to do is supervise! For littles, that can make them feel “big” which is always a good thing!

What is Snot Slime?

You know when you’re sick with a cold and whatever concoction is coming out of your nose a bright green color? That’s what snot slime is meant to look like.

So, snot slime is exactly what it’s called. It’s a homemade slime recipe that is colored to look like snot, boogers, mucus…you get the idea. It’s gooey and gross which is 100% why kids love it. As a Halloween craft idea, it’s quick and a perfect fit for the holiday.

How Do You Make Snot Slime?

Just like any 3 ingredient slime recipe, fake snot slime is made with school glue, Borax powder and water. What makes it “snot” is the coloring that you get from adding food coloring. In this case, our snot slime ends up a bright lime green color.

Kids are gross, ya’ll.

When you purchase the food coloring to make your Halloween slime, make sure that you buy regular food coloring and not gel food coloring. Gel will not color your slime the way you want and tends to stain little hands more so than the liquid stuff.

All food coloring will stain clothing though. To protect what they’re wearing, have your babies wear a kids craft apron or older play clothes. You may also want to protect the surface they’re working on with newspaper to keep the dye from making a mess there as well.

At the end of the day, this snot slime is an ooey gooey, somewhat gross but super fun way to help your kids celebrate Halloween. You could customize it by adding an essential oil for scent or even make it an even greater texture for sensory play by adding kid safe plastic Halloween toys and balls. Either way, your kids will love the time spent with you making it and the time spent playing.
