Buying safe essential oils can be complicated. They’re either too expensive or not safe quality. I found the best ways to safely buy essential oils on a budget so you can do it too!
A long time ago, in a small Texas town far away, a young Mom turned to holistic health care for her own health issues. She had suffered from chronic pain now diagnosed as Lupus, migraines and worse for years and felt that conventional medicine had failed her. So, she began to look for other options to help with her health issues.
I’m she. I’m that mom.
It was over a decade after those issues began that I began to make the lifestyle changes that my body so desperately needed me to make.
I started eating a gluten free diet and moved my family to a mostly fresh and/or raw diet. I made the move to stop buying and make as much as possible from home (SixDollarFamily).
I started doing Beachbody on Demand (Beachbody)to get my body into shape. I loved it so much I wrote a review about my experience HERE (Six Dollar Family). I also started using essential oils around my home and family wherever I could.
How to Buy Safe Essential Oils
The issue with buying essential oils is two fold; either they’re ridiculously expensive or you can never be sure of the quality/they’re not pure.
Since essential oils are so potent, making sure the oils you’re using are pure is incredibly important. Using oils that are not pure could lead to a whole lot of bad juju you just don’t want to deal with.
But, despite how difficult it may seem, it is possible to buy safe essential oils on a budget. Over the years I have learned a few tips to help you do it.
Can EO Really Be “Therapeutic Grade?”
I’m sure you’ve seen the phrase “therapeutic grade” being tossed around in context to essential oils so you might be wondering if essential oils really can be a therapeutic grade.
I mean really, have you seen how many essential oils on Amazon are supposedly therapeutic grade?
The answer is no and those two words are simply a marketing tactic.
Now calm down and hear me out because I imagine I just made some people angry with the fact that I said they can not exist.
There are no federal guidelines nor is there a federal grading system for essential oils. I could bottle a bottle of water with watered down lemon juice juice and call it lemon essential oil.
Because there are no guidelines or grading system, there is quite literally no way for an oil to be theraputic grade.
Cheap or expensive, all that matters is an oils purity. Not that its “therapeutic grade.”
How to Tell If An Essential Oil is Pure
So, how do you tell if an oil is pure essential oil if you can’t go by the words therapeutic grade?
GC/MS stands for gas chromatography–mass spectrometry. To put it simpoly; it is a labratory test that looks for impurities in a test sample. Any reputable oil company will have their oils GC/MS tested by a third party lab to verify purity.
The Best Budget Friendly Essential Oils
I have used essential oils for going on seven years now and in hat time, believe me, I’ve tried a lot of different brands. Some were amazing, some not so much. But recently, I discovered my absolute and all-time favorite brand of truly pure essential oils (Six Dollar Family).
I use them in my own home daily and have fallen head over heels in love with them! They’re a staple in my homemade deodorant recipe (Six Dollar Family), my coconut milk shampoo recipe (Six Dollar Family), my DIY Lavender and Chamomile Bath Fizzies (Six Dollar Family) and my homemade bubble bath recipe (Six Dollar Family).
At this point, I honestly can not see my life without them!
