Homemade Pizza Rolls Recipe
This homemade pizza rolls recipe uses crescent rolls, but if you would prefer to use pizza dough, you can. You’ll need to make your favorite pizza dough recipe and roll it out thin. Cut the dough into triangles and follow the rest of the directions. You can also customize this homemade pizza rolls recipe as much as you would like. Add other meats instead of pepperoni, add vegetables, get crazy! Just remember that your baking times will likely change if you change the toppings that are included.
You Will Need:
- 1 can of crescent rolls
- 24 Pepperoni Slices
- 2-4 Mozzarella String Cheese
- 1 – 6 oz. can of tomato paste
- 4 oz water
- 2 tsp granulated sugar
- 1 tbsp. garlic powder
- 1/2 tbsp onion powder
- 1 tbsp. basil
- 1 tsp. oregano
- 1/4 tsp. thyme
To prepare, preheat your oven to 350°. Lay the crescent rolls out on a large baking sheet and roll each one flat.
While the oven is heating, combine tomato paste, water, sugar and spices in a small saucepan. If you don’t want to use the individual spices, you can use Italian Seasoning instead. Simply add an amount to your taste preferences. Stir it together well and heat it until its hot all the way through. It won’t hurt anything to allow it to simmer for a bit – and in fact doing so will help the spices to blend better – but be sure to watch it closely and stir often to keep it from burning.
Next, cut each string cheese into quarters. I find it’s easiest to do this by cutting each piece in half lengthwise then cutting each piece again in half widthwise. If you’re using more than 2 string cheeses, you’ll still want to cut them in quarters, but instead of only adding 1 to each of your homemade pizza rolls, you’ll add 2 pieces to each.
Once the cheese is cut, spread a small amount of your homemade pizza sauce onto each crescent roll. Make sure to leave a bit of room on each edge. If you don’t, your pizza roll won’t stick to itself very well when you go to roll it up. Next, layer three pieces of pepperoni on top of the sauce. Make sure to overlap them so that they don’t hang over the edges. Finally, add a piece of cheese to the top of each of your homemade pizza rolls.
If you’re using any additional toppings, add them now.
Once you’ve added your toppings, roll each homemade pizza roll by starting at the widest end and rolling down. Make sure to press on the very end piece to give it a slight seam.
After you’ve rolled all of your homemade pizza rolls, place them on your baking sheet. Bake them for 10-12 minutes or until they are golden brown and cheese is melted.
