It’s one of my favorite snack recipes hands down because it’s so simple to make yet oh so tasty!
This recipe is one of my favorite cheap healthy recipes hands down. I love the simplicity of the ingredients and I adore how quickly they can be made up. Since they’re frozen, they are amazing on a hot summer day but just as delicious on a cold day too! For me, they help to handle my craving for sweets better than anything else I’ve tried. My daughter loves them too so they’re a very kid-friendly recipe option! When you make your own fruit and yogurt bites, you will be using greek yogurt. I suppose that you could use regular yogurt, but you likely wouldn’t get a great coating like these really need. Using greek yogurt gives you a thick coating that only increases the taste. If you don’t want to use store bought yogurt, you could always buy an Instant Pot or buy a Greek yogurt maker and make homemade yogurt to use instead. Just make sure that it isn’t thin or watery. They do have white sugar in them, but you can substitute raw honey if you want. Finally, you can use any fruit you want as long as it is a sturdy fruit. I adore using blueberries and strawberries so that is what is shown in the directions.
Cheap Healthy Recipe – Easy Fruit and Yogurt Bites Recipe
Aside from the consistency, using Greek yogurt has added health benefits over regular yogurt. Because it’s made by separating the liquids from the whey, it has fewer carbs and less sugar than regular yogurt. It’s also packed with B12, Iodine, Potassium and Calcium whereas the thin stuff may be lacking in those areas. It also tends to have more probiotics in it than traditional yogurt meaning that your digestive system is much better off.
You Will Need:
- 2 Cups blueberries and strawberries
- 2 Cups Greek yogurt
- 3 Tablespoons granulated sugar
- Raw honey if you’re not using sugar
To prepare your fruit, place it in a colander and wash it using a fruit and vegetable wash. Let it drain then slice any large fruits into bite sized pieces. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
In a small mixing bowl, stir together the yogurt and sugar. If you’re using honey in place of sugar, start with 2 tablespoons and go until it is sweet enough for you. Keep in mind that the fruit will add sweetness to them so be careful how sweet you make it. Be sure to mix well. If you are using sugar, make sure that you’ve stirred it in well enough so that there aren’t any clumps.
Add a few pieces of fruit to your mixing bowl and cover each piece with yogurt. You want to have a good covering. Remove each piece, one at a time, with a fork making sure to allow the excess yogurt to fall off. Place them on your parchment paper covered baking sheet making sure they don’t touch.
Pop your baking sheet into the freezer and freeze until the yogurt is fully frozen. Remove them and place into an airtight storage container or freezer bag. Keep them frozen for the best taste.
