I love football. Growing up in a family that gathered around the t.v. every Saturday to watch Ohio State football, it has always been a big part of my life. Now that I live in Texas, it can be hard to watch OSU ball, but that doesn’t mean that I don’t still follow online and stream the game when I can. If you’re an Ohio State fan, you know which game I speak of when I say “the” game. That means that I’m usually looking for amazing appetizer recipes and tailgating recipes to serve for game day! After all, you can’t cheer your team without great food, now can you? These bacon wrapped Lil’ Smokies with brown sugar are perfect!

To prep, cut each piece of bacon in half and preheat your oven to 350°F.
Wrap each sausage with a piece of bacon and secure in place using a toothpick. If the pieces of bacon cut in half are still too long, feel free to cut them into thirds instead. You want the bacon to wrap around the sausage completely but not have enough overlap that you end up wrapping it more than once.
Place each sausage on a baking sheet then sprinkle each one with a large pinch of brown sugar. Bake in your pre-heated oven for 45-50 minutes or until the bacon is crispy, the sausages are hot and the brown sugar has melted/caramelized.

While the sausages are baking, mix the ketchup, mustard, hot sauce and garlic together in a medium mixing bowl. Chill the sauce until your bacon wrapped Lil’ Smokies with brown sugar are done. Serve the sauce on the side or pour it over the baking dish. If you want your sauce to have a bit more kick, consider using a spicy brown mustard instead. I usually make a batch with regular yellow mustard and a batch with spicy so each person can choose which flavor they prefer.
See how easy that was? Super easy and oh…so…good!
