Many years ago, making my own homemade soap became a favorite hobby of mine. There’s just something calming to me about creating a beautiful artisan bar of soap. Another thing I adore is apple cinnamon scented anything. I love how crisp and yummy it smells, so if I can buy or make something instead of buying it in apple cinnamon scent (or even flavor), I do! This homemade soap recipe is apple cinnamon scented and really is one of my favorite melt and pour soap recipes hands down!

Like I said above, this is a melt and pour soap recipe. That means it’s super easy to make, even if you have never made homemade soap before. Unlike “true” soap recipes, melt and pour soap making uses a soap base and takes out the need for chemicals such as lye, etc. Not only are melt and pour recipes beginner friendly, but they can also be kid-friendly with proper supervision.

What is a Soap Base?

Soap bases are exactly what they sound like. It is the base of a soap recipe. Using one in a recipe means you’re basking using melted soap base. This is followed by adding ingredients like oatmeal or fragrance oils and finally, pouring the mixture into a soap mold to rest and harden. Your soap base can be made of a simple glycerin soap base, a shea butter base or like this recipe uses; a moisturizing goat’s milk soap base. There are a lot of options when it comes to choosing one and I’m sure you’ll enjoy taking the time to figure out which is your favorite.

Why Should I Not Use Cinnamon Essential Oil in this Homemade Soap Recipe?

I love cinnamon essential oil as much as the next essential oil user, but unfortunately, it is not recommended for use in soaps. The reason for this is that cinnamon is considered a hot essential oil. Basically, it has the potential to burn or otherwise cause irritation to skin; especially those with sensitive skin.

Because of the risk, this particular homemade soap uses cinnamon scented fragrance oil. It’s better to be safe then sorry. The worries about the skin irritation aren’t worth that risk.

These apple cinnamon melt and pour soap bars make amazing gifts for anyone who loves a great homemade fall-scented soap. Wrap a few bars with some twine and add a pretty gift tag to gift.

One last thing; this recipe does use mica powder to color the bottom half of each bar. If you would prefer not to use mica, that is perfectly fine. Just know that your bars will be white vs pink as mine are shown.

Instructions

  • Cut soap base into 1" cubes. Divide between the two measuring cups.
1 1/2 lbs Goat's Milk Melt and Pour Soap Base
  • Microwave one cup 30-seconds. Repeat until fully melted making sure to stir well between each increment.
  • Add red mica powder to one measuring cup. Stir well until fully combined.
    1/4 tsp Red Mica Powder
  • To the red soap, add the apple fragrance drops. Stir well to fully incorporate then pour into the silicone soap mold. Spray with rubbing alcohol.
    25 drops Apple Fragrance Oil
  • Set aside and allow it to cool and rest for 20-minutes.
  • Repeat the heating process with the other cup of soap base.
  • Once melted, allow it to cool 10-minutes, then add ground cinnamon and cinnamon essential oil and mix well.
1/2 tsp. Ground Cinnamon, 7 drops Cinnamon Fragrance Oil
  • Allow the mixture to cool slightly, but not cool enough that it begins to harden. Stir very well to combine the ground cinnamon and pour over the apple mixture.
  • Spray gently with rubbing alcohol and use a stir stick to stir and "rough up" the top of the soap bars for look, if desired.
  • Set aside and allow it to sit undisturbed for 3-4 hours.
  • Remove soap from mold and cut into 1" bars.

Notes

  • Allowing the 2nd batch of soap to cool slightly helps to keep the layers separate. Do not allow it to harden at all.
