When you’re growing up, the thought that someday, you may need to become a family caregiver to a parent usually never crosses your mind. For me though, those thoughts have always been in the forefront of my mind. You see, my Mother has always been chronically ill, so my days as her caregiver began as early as five years old. Ambulance and hospital trips were common as I was growing up. Helping her bathe and yes, cleaning up accidents were as well. She did the best she could with what she had, but now, as a thirty-five-year-old woman, I have cared for her for more years than she cared for me. When you’re a family caregiver, whether you’re caring for a parent, child, grandparent or other relative; you seek out products and items that make your life easier. These products often save you time or in some cases; they simply save you grief. For my family, Prevail® Air™ is one of those products.

Mom’s health issues run the gamut, but the quick breakdown is that she has rheumatoid arthritis, scoliosis, heart issues and at this point in her life, she is completely and almost totally bed bound. Because she cannot get out of bed on her own, bladder and bowel leakage became a huge issue that needed a quick answer to help keep her dry and clean as much as possible. Cue

Prevail® Air™ uses new, state of the art technology to provide a cleaner, drier experience for users who experience bladder leakage. This technology consists of a soft, cloth-like material that rests against skin surface and a Doublesorb layer that locks away moisture to help keep the skin dry and moisture free. Finally, the Prevail AirMax™ layer prevents any leakage that may overflow the core and provides a breathable layer that allows air to circulate through. If you have ever been a family caregiver to someone who experiences bladder or bowel leakage, you know how important air circulation is in preventing infection and/or sore skin.

I realize that bladder leakage or bowel leakage isn’t something that you hear in everyday conversation. It is, however, far more common than most people realize. Bladder leakage, also known as incontinence or loss of bladder control (LOBC), affects as many as 25 million Americans each year, but only 1 in 8 are diagnosed. I am not ashamed to tell you that I myself experienced LOBC after the birth of my daughter to the extent that I needed surgery to repair it.  Absorbent Protective hygiene products, such as the ones designed by Prevail help to support your active lifestyle while helping to keep you clean and dry if you too experience LOBC.
As I mentioned earlier, my own LOBC was brought on by pregnancy with my daughter. She basically laid on my bladder for the entire pregnancy weakening the muscles within it, however, symptoms of bladder leakage occur in a wide age range of adults, and are caused by a variety of factors ranging from stress to nutrition, health and medications. With a wide range of absorbent protective hygiene solutions for men and women, Prevail products are designed to suit each person’s unique needs, whether they are seeking light or maximum protection, in a truly discrete way.

My own LOBC was repaired, however, for folks like my Mom, having reliable products like Prevail® Air™ is important to living a quality life. No one wants to walk around feeling wet or dirty each day. With Prevail, she doesn’t have to. These days, she is a resident in a nursing (Six Dollar Family) home and with Prevail, she can go play bingo with her friends once a week or sit up and watch tv without having to worry about an accident. She is kept clean, dry and happy and we all know; when Mama’s happy, everyone’s happy.
