Let’s face it. We all have clutter in our homes at some point. It’s what we do with that clutter that really matters. If we leave it there, it can cost us big financially, cost us with our family and cause problems that we wouldn’t even think of at first. If we deal with that clutter though, we often can make quite a bit of extra money for ourselves. Now I don’t know about you, but making money sounds so much better to me than spending it so I like to deal with my clutter. How do I do that? Amazon helps me declutter my home and? They pay me to let them help.
I know. You’re sitting there wondering how Amazon can help you declutter and how I get paid to do it? Well hold on to your hats because I’m going to show you the two different ways that you too can use Amazon to declutter your home and get paid. The first thing you’ll want to do is decide whether you want to get paid in Amazon gift cards or cold, hard cash. I tend to do a bit of both and I’ll explain why in a few. Once you’ve figured that out, you’ll need to actually start decluttering. Go through each room and find what you own that is used and in very good shape OR brand new and you no longer need or want it. You might want to take a look at our post 101 things you can sell or donate right now for inspiration if you’re having trouble.
How to Use Amazon to Get Paid to Declutter
After you’ve done that, it’s time to get started! Amazon has two programs that you will want to look at. The first is the Amazon trade-in program and it is incredibly easy to use. Once you gather your items, head over to the Amazon Trade-in page. Put in the correct info and Amazon will tell you how much in gift cards they will pay you. If you accept their prices, print the label that Amazon gives you and ship your box to Amazon. Once Amazon receives your box, they will look it over and if everything is good to go, email your gift card to you.
Different items have different price ranges for the Amazon Trade In Program. DVD’s can fetch between $0.25 and $10.00 each depending on what they are and how much of a demand there is. Make sure there are no scratches and they must be in their original case. CD’s are the exact same way. Don’t make the mistake of thinking that a CD can’t fetch a good price because I have seen them fetch as much as $13.00 before.
Books are also accepted but need to be in good condition. No writing, torn pages, water stains or smoke smells. Boxed sets will fetch you more…sometimes as much as $50.00 per set! Textbooks are also a great trade in and can net you hundreds of dollars for the right one. Amazon has a separate program for textbook trade-ins. Video games are just like DVD’s except they pay much more.
For the trade-in program, electronics are where you can earn the big money. Game system bundles are fetching gift cards worth $200 or more. Camera and lens can bring in over $1200 in gift cards and tablets and iPads can earn you $600 or more.
The next program that you’ll want to take a look at is Amazon FBA. Becoming an Amazon FBA seller is one of the most profitable ways to not only get paid to declutter but to earn money from home period. I have spoken with people who have literally made millions with Amazon FBA. With Amazon FBA, you’re open to sell in quite a few more categories than with the trade-in program. It works a bit like the trade-in program except you have to actually list your items. You still send them into Amazon though and they handle the shipping for you.
The Amazon FBA program can be really hard to understand though if you’re new. The system is not very user friendly if you don’t know what you’re doing and there are quite a few rules. I highly recommend that anyone who is looking to make real money from Amazon FBA take the Amazon Boot Camp course from The Selling Family. They are quite successful at what they do and with the course, they will teach you to do the same thing.
So why do I use both? Some items will fetch a better price for us with the trade-in program and some will earn better as an FBA item. It also depends on if I’m buying that item specifically to sell or if I already own it. Either way, I earn on them. You’ll have to decide if it’s “right” for you to use both or if you’d rather just use one. I’m sure you’ll agree with me on one thing though. Getting paid to declutter?
