Every year when Halloween rolls around, we look for cute crafts and activities for our kids to help them have an awesome Halloween. Well, at least I do. My Emma loves crafting and this Frankenstein Mason Jar Mug was no exception! We made a few yesterday and she had a blast! They’re super easy to make and they would look fantastic at a Halloween party or just be a fun treat for the kids to drink from during the Halloween season!

Super easy to make and adorably terrifying, these Frankenstein Mason Jar Mugs are fantastic at Halloween parties or just as a fun treat for the kids to drink from during the Halloween season!

See? Couldn’t be cuter, right? Oh I mean that they couldn’t be scarier, right?! Halloween isn’t supposed to be cute, right? Anyhow, these Frankenstein Mason Jar Mugs are super easy to make and are actually done with balloons! Your kids will have as much fun as my Emma did and they’ll be able to reuse them year after year! These look fantastic if you use Halloween decorated paper straws too, but of course, any straw or no straw will work. It really just depends on the look you’re going for with them.

You Will Need:

To start, wash your mason jars and dry well. Then, prepare the green balloon by cutting off the ends as shown in the photo above.

Make sure to cut completely off as you will need both ends to be open. Repeat the same cuts on the black balloon.

Once you’ve made the cuts, stretch the balloon over the bottom half of the cup. It shouldn’t be too hard to get it into place.

Grab your black balloon and cut one end at angles to create Frankenstein’s “hair” like shown in the pic. Obviously you don’t have to do this step, but I really think it completes his look.

Stretch the black balloon over the top half of the mason jar making sure that you do it with the “hair” you cut out on the bottom. Make sure that you get it down far enough to cover the bottom lip that all mason jars have so that the balloon sits right and doesn’t bulge.

Now, lift one end of the green balloon from the bottom and make a very small slit in the green balloon for the mouth. You don’t need to cut a very big one and once you let go. it will snap back into place, stretch and form an ‘O’ shape on it’s own.

Using your hot glue gun, glue Frankenstein’s googly eyes on and let dry completely. It’s perfectly fine if they’re not completely even, but if that really and truly matters to you, lay Frank on his “back” to help them stay in place while they dry.

Finally, using a black sharpie, give your Frankenstein his stitches to finish! They don’t have to be perfect. If you wanted, you could even draw a small bolt on the sides down where his neck would be to really finish off the entire package.

You’re done! Wash Frank gently by hand, making sure that you’re mindful of his eyes. Dry well and serve your favorite Halloween drink in him! The kids will have a blast drinking from their own personal Frankenstein mug and you’ll have a blast watching them!
