Finding Your Financial Freedom When Things Get Rough

Imagine going from an income of $80,000 all the way down to $20,000. Never in my wildest dreams did I expect this to happen to us, but in 2014, it did and I can say that as a family, it was one of the hardest things we’ve ever done. Families tend to get used to a certain level of comfort when the bills are always paid and when that knowledge of comfort is taken away, it can cause major issues for a family.  For us, things got really bad before they got better. We almost lost our home and car. We had our power shut off not once, but twice. We completely drained my stockpile to eat since there was no money to go food shopping. Living was hard and life was stressful, but we got through it.

Finding Financial Freedom can be tough if money is tight and the bills are due, but don't sweat it! There IS a light at the end of the tunnel!

2014 was one of those situations where you look back and you are glad you kept going because the only way to go was forward. During this financial crisis in 2014, I literally worked 18 hour days, 7 days a week, to keep my blog running and the bills paid, even if they were late sometimes. My husband and I were so stressed out that we almost didn’t make it through as a couple. Thank goodness it’s no longer 2014 though! 2015 was great to us and we’re all incredibly thankful that 2016 is looking great. One reason it is looking great is that since last year, we’ve focused on being more prepared financially.

We’re not the only household in America that has spent time (or currently is) stressed about money. Statistics show that over 70% of Americans are stressed about money. So much so that 12% of Americans skip going to the doctor when they need it and 17% of Americans say that they lose sleep worrying about their finances. Sadly, 32% of adults say that their financial situation keeps them from even living a healthy lifestyle! Money can leave people feeling desperate and desolate and if you’re one of them, I know that it can seem like things will never get better and that there is no light at the end of the tunnel.

When you have financial breathing room, you gain financial confidence that allows you to spend your money how you want and to build a solid foundation that your family can comfortably grow on. onUp by SunTrust is a movement to guide people just like you and me to live a more financially confident life without the stress.
