Due to being a &quot;pressure cooker&quot;, it needs a certain amount of room to build up pressure.  Therefore, only food capacity is about 3.5 quarts.  But you&#39;d be surprised how much room that is.  And check out all the recipes online for this...!!!  OMG!

This is a 6 qt capacity - I don&#39;t know why they put 3.5 in the specs - be aware however if your cooking food that swells ,ie rice ,grains , barley, beans etc it is recommended to not to fill over 4 qts of food and liquid- otherwise when the food swells up during cooking it may clog the pressure relief valve . I&#39;ve used this about 20 times for all of the above , plus numerous times for potatoes , vegetables and fruit desserts and it works perfectly every time - Frozen chicken breasts in about 15 minutes are cooked thru - Lots of rcipes and info on the net and many recipe books available on line- I bought two more of these for my daughters fo xmas- Great stuff and this is a really goodprice

Why does it say 3.5 qt capacity, but then elsewhere it says 6 qt?

Great question! While manufactured in China, the Instant Pot is designed by Canadians. We can assure you that the Instant Pot meets and exceeds all North American standards.

Yes it does say it's a pressure cooker,it does not say it's a pressure canner;  BIG DIFFERENCE!!  If you don't know the difference you better look it up before somebody ends up in the hospital or worse;dead

Never use this for canning!  It won't have the same pressure needed for safely canning things like veggies and meats.  It says you can but just cause you can doesn't mean you should.  It's not safe for canning.

it says pressure cooker so does that mean you can put jars in it for canning

I recieved this as a gift for Christmas.  I was very excited to try it out!  It's one of the greatest kitchen gadgets I have ever used!  I had a meal ready in half an hour with frozen chicken breasts!!  It works great and I foresee using it all the time!!  Highly recommend it for the busy Mom!!

I purchased this instant pot at a great Black Friday price.   It is a wonderful kitchen addition! It cooks many different foods in such a short time! I love  to be able to leave things cooking without having to stand over a pot stirring and checking for hours. I have cooked the toughest cuts of meat, bone in ribs, roasts, stews, soups, vegetables,  eggs, and oatmeal. I tried to make popcorn with little success, but that is the only thing that hasn't turned out fabulous. I made potato salad that was out of this world using the instant pot.   It only took a few minutes! I think the food tastes better because it pressure cooks the food and keeps the flavor in. If you are thinking about an instant pot,  research reviews, look up recipes, and don't be afraid to enhance your food experience! I don't think I have ever loved a kitchen appliance  more.

Love this instant pot!

I bought this for a friend based on my experience with the earlier model.  The stainless liner makes this the king of pressure cookers although some companies now have them as additional purchases.  There are 6 or 8  presets although I don't use them but I've been pressure cooking for many years and have my own recipes. I find the pot very useful for me because I never remember to get meat from the freezer to defrost and I can cook from frozen in the cooker in just a little longer than would take if I'd defrosted.  It's great for steaming seafood and also reheating left overs.  I highly recommend the Instant pot.

This makes healthy cooking so easy and quick. I absolutely love this. I have used it almost every day since I got it. I work 2 jobs so, in many ways this has saved me. I can cook full meals in less time, so more eat in and less take out. Therefore, saving me both time and money. A whole rotisserie style chicken in less than an hour, including prep time, and falls off the bones. Yumm.

Hubby just loved this gift! He loves to cook, but often things aren't thawed soon enough. He's made everything from ribs to pot-roast, and they've all been great. One pot has made cleanup a lot easier for me too! So far he's used it 5 times in the first week. He says he's making chicken Alfredo in tomorrow!

So far it's perfect

Bought an extra large pressure cooker originally,  but was  too much for our family of six.  Got this size for us to use instead. Extra large is great for groups and our whole family of 14. 
Love the stainless steel insert instead of the non-stick type which wears out. 
Instapot cookbook is very helpful and easy to use. It's a win-win purchase!

2nd pressure cooker

Pot seems great after testing BUT if you want good instructions you have to GOOGLE  your question.  That is the way I learned  most of the things I've learned.  The instructions are so inadequate that I had pretty much vowed to put the pot in the garage and forget about it till I went to GOOGLE.  Now, I have hope that I'll be able to use it.
