15 Ways to Earn From Home!

Times are hard and for a lot of families, budgets are super right. I’m certain that I can’t be the only one who could use a bit more cash. Right? There are a ton of different ways to earn money from home to be honest but it seems to me that a lot of them get lost in the shuffle. Most of them are so simple to earn from though that you can actually use them to bring in hundreds of dollars of additional income each month. For the most part, I either currently work these myself  or I have in the past so you can bet your sweet bippy (yes, I did just go there lol) that they’re all legit ways to earn from home.

A lot of these are common sense, but like I said, they can very easily be overlooked. If your budget is tight, you’re stressed and when we get stressed, we tend to focus on the reason we’re stressed. If we’re focused on not having enough money, we’re not exactly focused on making more. This post is crazy long, so if you’re looking for a quicker read, I posted the other day about how I add $225.00/mo to my budget every single month with very little work.

15 Easy Ways to Earn From Home! All verified legit and ready for you to get started! These are great for adding anywhere from a few bucks a month to your budget to a full time income!

One site that I do want to mention, before we get started is Ebates. While Ebates doesn’t exactly earn you money, it can help you keep money in your home. Most of us do some form of online shopping and they will pay you cash back for that shopping. It won’t be much, but if you’re reading this post then chances are good that you need to keep as much of your money as you can. Because of that I figured I’d mention it so that those of you who don’t know of the site can sign up and start keeping more of your cash.

15 Tried & True Ways to Earn from Home

When you’re looking for ways to earn from home, it can be a really hectic search. I know personally that I’m always leery of trying a new method because I either a) don’t want to get scammed or b) don’t want to try out something new only to have it not work. These 15 ways to earn from home though? They are all tried & true by me personally. I have tested every link in this post for a way to earn meaning that you can trust that they’re not only safe, but that they pay on time, pay you what you’re worth and are just generally an awesome way to earn!

Sell Your Clutter

This one is pretty obvious to most of us but you wouldn’t believe the number of people that actually do NOT do this! I’m sorry, I love to donate to the needy but to be honest? If I paid $200 for a washer? I’d like to recoup some of my money when I buy another one. I’m sure that a lot of you guys are the same way!

Of course you guys know that you can sell your clutter online at sites like Ebay and Craigslist but did you also consider Facebook and Amazon? There are a TON of Facebook groups dedicated to buying, selling and trading goodies. On Amazon, you can become a seller and get rid of it that way too! Ebay and Amazon both have fees associated with each sale of course, but Facebook and Craigslist are free!

Help other people shop –

Sign up as a Shop Your Way Rewards Personal Shopper and you can get paid for helping other people shop. You will earn a commission on the things they buy in store or online at Sears or Kmart. It does take some time to build up a client list (be sure to ask your friends and family!) but once you do get it built up you can actually bring in a pretty tidy income each month.

Grow a Green Thumb

If you’ve already got a garden going each year, you’re halfway there. If not? They’re not too terribly hard to get going. Selling extra fruits and vegetables from your garden is a great way to make some extra cash…especially if you don’t use pesticides and can sell it as organic! The prices that you’ll be able to get for each piece will vary by the area that you live in but I know people that make $3-400.00 per month just selling their extras! This also works well with eggs if you live in the country and have chickens. When we lived in Austin, people were making $4.00 or more per dozen for fresh farm eggs!

Just a quick word about this: Don’t sell food that your family needs. Instead, make sure you’re only selling your excess garden crops so that you aren’t actually hurting your family instead of helping them.

Wrangle Kids

Oops. Did I say wrangle? I meant babysit. 😉 Running a childcare business at home is a great way to earn cash from home! I have a cousin who at one point was making a full time paycheck just watching a few kids out of her home! It’s insanely easy to get started too! Just decide how much you want to charge, how many kids you can handle safely and what your days and hours will be! Advertise on places like Craigslist, your local newspaper, and Facebook and you’re done! Just be sure to check all of your local city and state laws before you begin to be sure you’re within the law. Care.com is a fantastic place to find available jobs and to list yourself as available for baby-sitting or nanny work. You can also list here if you’re looking for a housecleaner or that type of work.

Write Articles

There are many, many sites on the internet that will pay you to write for them. In fact, I use several of them myself. A quick Google search can help you find the ones that pay best and even give you reviews on them before you get started.

Complete Tasks

Did you know that Amazon has a marketplace where you can complete tasks for other people to get paid? Nooo? Well now you do. 😛 Amazon Mechanical Turk (MTurk) is a marketplace where people will list specific tasks (called HITs) they need done. You do the tasks and get paid! All payments are handled from Amazon (cash or Amazon Gift Card) too! Tasks range from clicking a link to writing articles and more. I have a friend that I suggested MTurk to a few months ago after he had lost his job and he was able to actually get a full time job from one of his tasks!

Complete Surveys

This is an oldie but its still a goodie. Surveys have been a staple of people who are looking to bring in cash while staying at home. If you’re new to them, they’re pretty simple in how they work. You sign up for the website, confirm your email address (which is very important because you won’t get their survey invites if you don’t), the log in and start taking surveys. Payment methods are typically cash, gift card, Paypal or check and the amount that you have to make before you get paid can range from $0.00 to $100.00. I have been making money with paid surveys since 2008 and I still love it. Its one of my easy fall backs for when I need to pick up some extra cash.

Some of the better survey sites out there (and my favorites) are:

If you’re not already signed up for them, be sure you do. They’re all great companies that I personally do each week. 🙂

Earn Money from Home from your Smartphone

If you’ve got a smartphone, you can put it to work earning cash for you! There are a ton of apps out that will let you earn cash, gift cards or both! I love earning this way because its so simple! Some of them are even set it and forget it meaning that I earn whether I use the app at all or not!
Some of my favs are:

  • Shopkick – Earn “kicks” just for walking into certain stores, scan certain products or buy certain products at different stores. Kicks can be redeemed for gift cards (a lot of different choices) or actual prizes.
  • iBotta – Pays cash back for buying groceries. Payment is Paypal (instant when you reach $5.00) or gift cards.
  • PerkWatch videos on your phone in exchange for points. Points can then be changed into Paypal payments or a gift card. Payments are sent three times per week.
  • Receipt Hog – Scan your shopping receipts for spins on their slots. Change your points into cash or an Amazon gift card.
  • Checkout 51 – Just like iBotta, get cash back for your groceries. This one can also be done on the pc.
  • Snap – Another cash back app for regular groceries!

Collect Broken Electronics

This one is a bit odd but sites like Craigslist and Freecycle are full of broken electronics that are just going to be thrown away. Companies like Gazelle will pay you cash for them! Post wanted ads and when you get a response, send it in for cash! Most of the companies that offer this service will even pay for shipping. You’ll get to earn some extra cash and you’ll be doing something good for the environment too!

Amazon also offers their trade in program where you can send in good quality items that you have at home in exchange for Amazon gift cards. These can be used in your budget to replace cash for things like groceries, household items and gifts.

Learn to Coupon

I know. Doesn’t make much sense does it? Yes. It actually does. When you learn to coupon you begin to save your family money. When you’re saving money at the store, you’re putting money back into your family’s budget. So while you aren’t actively earning anything, you are in fact causing yourself to have more money! This is probably one of the easiest ways that you can “earn” money from home without a lot of cost to yourself!

Bake a Cake

There is always someone who needs a nicely decorated cake. From wedding cakes to birthday cakes to just a surprise for a loved one, cake baking and decorating can be a very lucrative business from home.  This is especially popular around the holidays but baking and decorating cakes is ALWAYS a hot item. If you aren’t sure how to get started, Craftsy offers a few free cake decorating classes and Cake Central is a very good jumping off point for recipes and ideas.

Edit Photos

Let me tell you…and I’m more than certain that you already know this, but there are a lot of bad photographers in the world today. Those people? Well they need their photos edited. Who better to do that than you? Whether you charge an hourly rate or a flat rate for your editing skills, there are people that will pay for someone to edit their photos! You can use a free program like Paint.net or Gimp for your editing platform or you can go full out and buy Photoshop. Its up to you! Again, advertise on Craigslist, Facebook, and your local newspapers and you’ll soon be making a good income!

If you’re good at actually taking the photos, selling your photos online to be used as stock photos can be a great way to add some extra cash to your budget. How much you earn will depend on how many you sell though. There are quite a few companies out there that will pay you for this so be sure that you compare rates and payment terms to find the best fit for you.

Get crafty

If you’re the crafty sort, you can earn extra cash at home by selling what you make! Etsy, Ebay, and Craigslist are all fantastic places to peddle your wares and this is a crazy easy way to make a few extra bucks! Just about everything has a market these days so whether its homemade jewelry, a hand sewn skirt, baby blankets or pretty throw pillows, if you can make it, you can sell it!

Another great option for crafty folks is to make your own homemade creams, salves and ointments and sell them! Local farmers markets and the sites listed above are all great markets for those items too! We have some awesome tutorials and recipes HERE to get you started.

Become a blogger –

Did you know that blogging can earn you money? It sure can! In fact, this blog provides a significant portion of our family’s income each month. It does take work and you won’t make money right off the bat, but if you’re willing to give it time and effort, you could earn too! Starting a blog isn’t as complicated as you might think though. If you’re interested in starting your own blog, we have a post right HERE on how to easily get started. You’ll be able to start your blog in just 3 easy steps and do it for under $10.00!

Become a Party Planner

Planning birthday parties or weddings from home can be a great way to earn extra cash! Not all moms have the ability to plan a memorable party for their little ones so they’ll hire people to do it! The same goes for a wedding planner! To get started, brush up on your party planning skills, your decorating skills and your people skills then advertise! You’ll need to figure out what you’re going to charge (call around to other planners in your area to get their prices if you’re unsure)  and if you’ll be a full time party planner or only work part time. Once you get going, you’ll be raking in the cash because these people get paid very well!

So there you have it! 15 ways to earn some extra cash from home! Do you have any to add? I’d love to hear them! Times are hard for a lot of people right now and we could all use a bit of extra cash!

  1. Tammy Leckbee says:

I went back to school to do Medical Transcription and let me tell you we do not make big bucks. We get paid a small amount per line (a line is 65 characters) and a lot of places do not pay for spaces (black characters only). We work long hours listening to doctors that can not speak very clear English. We have to take time out of typing to do research to spell medications that the doctors can not pronounce that we do not get paid for. Don’t get me wrong I love working from home and doing transcription and It has saved me lots of money because it cut down on the fuel bill getting to and from work and the maintenance on my vehicle not to mention my wardrobe cost went way down but we do not make the big bucks.

Just thought I would throw that out there so no one has ideas of grandeur about medical transcription.

    • Thanks for the insight!

    • Irene Plonka says:

My niece was recently laid off from medical transcribing at home , and a neighbor was forced to work in an office rather than from home.
Apparently it is a security issue with personal information in people’s homes, unsecured Wonder why it took so long for them to figure this out?

  2. Stacy Paisley says:

Hi, do you know of any companies for sales like Avon, but that are Christian or offer natural products?

  3. How do you get paid to write freelance for Yahoo?

  4. Natalie Derrigo McGilbery says:

Tammy Leckbee, I have a certificate in medical transcription, where would be a good place to try to contact about working from home? Local places want several years in-hospital experience and I don’t have that.

  5. Megan Swartzlander says:

For Stacy Paisley… Thirty-one Gifts is a Christian based company (main verse is Proverbs 31).

  6. Natalie Derrigo McGilbery, There is a site that I actually found on Facebook called MyMT.me and she is all about MT and trying to help get us equal pay and benefits. You should check her out. There are sometimes job opportunities posted there as well. I lucked out and the rehab I worked for had an opening in their psych facility that I was able to get and then they outsourced us. This all happened within a year of me graduating with an AAS in Medical Transcription.

  7. Haylee Parkhurst says:

Stacy Mary Kay is founded on the belief of God first family 2nd and career 3rd. I know you asked about it months ago but you can message me for more information. I’ve been with them for 9 years.

  8. pumpkinsfan76 says:

Thank you for sharing all of these ways to make money from home. I have sold a lot of my old things or traded for something else. All great tips.

  9. I have an associate degree in Medical Information Technology with an emphasis on Transcription. I tried for months to get an online job doing transcription with no luck. There are no local jobs for me either…most of the hospitals and medical facilities have gone digital and anybody who has a transcription job is holding on for dear life! I even tried just general transcription. I finally decided I wasn’t going to kill myself trying to get a job that no longer pays as well as it used to, since I was probably going to have to start out working 3rd shift and giving up my weekends…been there, done that! I’m sure some people do well with this. It just hasn’t worked out for me.

  10. There are lots of good ideas here. But the thought that a non photographer should edit a bad photogs crappy pictures with crappy free software just equals worse pictures.

    • I actually rented a room off of a woman years ago who edited pics for a photog. She had no formal training and didn’t take pics herself, however she did an awesome job. You can learn a lot on the net these days if you’re willing (including FREE photography and editing classes. 😉 )

  11. Thank you for sharing all your information with us. Last year my husband was forced to retire, after 28 years of faithful service but the business was closing. Not many people want to hire a 61yr old. Especially close to the pay he was making. We weren’t ready for retirement, so we are nickle and dimeing it. I would like to get a job but I cannot stand and am on a scooter, I can walk a few steps, not that good on a computer (trying to learn though) can you teach me how to find sites that fill out surveys? I’m sure I could do that.

    • Ellen, if you scroll to the end of the post, there are several survey sites listed there already. 🙂 I hope things work out for you guys. Have him check Walmart. They do a lot of hiring for older folks. Feel free to email me at stacy@adventuresincoupons.com if you need any other help or ideas and I’ll see what I am able to do.

  12. Thanks for this article. It was a gentle reminder that I need to use some of the apps I have on my smartphone that you mentioned. 🙂
Another place to look for work from home jobs is FlexJobs.com, there is a yearly fee to join but they weed out the scammers. I worked as customer service from home for Amazon and now am a freelancer evaluating websites and social media. I remember seeing medical transcription on there as well.
Also, I am working on my teacher’s certification, so I applied for substitute teacher positions in the surrounding school districts. I can literally work everyday making $90 a day. They also need paraprofessionals if you do not have more than 60 college credits (in a typical school district).

Someone mentioned Avon, I just signed up to become a rep. I want to look into some of the others that were listed.

    Just my two cents. 🙂
